Lake Nasser

In modern times this region has been changed dramatically through the construction of the Aswan High Dam and the creation of Lake Nasser. This demanded the UNESCO project designed to save historical Nubian sites from destruction – the most well known one, the temple of Rameses II and Nefertari, now located at Abu Simbel at the southern most tip of Lake Nasser.
You can visit both the enormous lake itself as well as unique temple sites from the Egyptian and Ptolemaic periods including Kasr Ibrim, an ancient fort still in it’s original strategic location high above a surrounding valley yet now, on the shores of Lake Nasser.
Icon Holidays has a choice of Nile Cruise itineraries traveling between Luxor and Aswan and the High Dam then continuing above the High Dam onto Lake Nasser sailing to Abu Simbel visiting a number of significant temple and archaeological sites along the way. Pre and post cruise itineraries can be customized to include other highlights in Egypt such as Cairo.
