With a typically Mediterranean climate, Greece has cool and wet winters with hot, dry summers. In general the wetter areas of Greece tend to be in the west rather than the eastern parts of the country, particularly in winter.

From April onwards, the weather becomes dryer and during the period June to August travellers tend to enjoy long, sunny summer days, especially in the Aegean island areas including Mykonos, Santorini Rhodes, Crete and Paros.

Island hotels are generally closed during the winter months but this time can be an opportunity to visit and tour the southern parts of the mainland without encountering large crowds.
