Sifnos

Within the island group known as the Cyclades, south-east of the Greek mainland in the Aegean is a beautiful island called Sifnos.
Situated between Serifos and Milos at the western side of the Cyclades, it is only 130kms from Piraeus and easily reached by ferry.
Wealthy during the Golden Era of classical Greek history with gold and silver mines, today Sifnos is known for its distinctive pottery and it’s contemporary cultural contribution to Greek culture including poets and chefs.
Less popular with tourists, visitors to Sifnos can observe and enjoy the authentic daily routine of Greek life, its celebrations and festivals and traditional villages set within a beautiful, natural island environment with forests of cedar and oak trees, lentisk and olive groves and hidden sandy beaches renowned for their unspoilt beauty, breathtaking bays and clear waters. |
Largely untouched by tourism, you will find white-washed traditional houses, beautiful churches, chapels, monasteries and ruins often set in magnificent settings, and a network of ancient footpaths wandering through the foothills. |
The principal villages to visit include Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos in the centre of the island, famous for it’s nightlife, cafes and restaurants, Faros, Kamares and Kastro a walled cliff top village with magnificent views of the sea. In addition there are smaller villages and beaches on the eastern side of the island that offer greater privacy, such as Artemonas.
